Titcaca Lake

Cerro Calvario (Calvary Hill) Copacabana, Bolivia Overlooking Lake Titicaca

Copacabana is the main Bolivian town on the shore of Lake Titicaca, from where boats leave for Isla del Sol, the sacred Inca island. The town has a large 16th-century shrine, the Basilica of Our Lady of Copacabana. Our Lady of Copacabana is the patron saint of Bolivia.

The town is a destination for tourism in Bolivia. The town is also known for its famous Basilica, home of the Virgin of Copacabana, its trout, and its quaint atmosphere. Built between Mount Calvario and Mount Niño Calvario, the town has approximately 6,000 inhabitants. Copacabana’s religious celebrations, cultural patrimony, and traditional festivals are well known throughout Bolivia. – Wikipedia

This is a photo of Cerro Calvario (Calvary Hill) which is lined with monuments representing the 14 Stations of the Cross. Pilgrims visit the Stations for prayer and penance and many tourists climb the hill for its fine views. The Stations of the Cross were built on this hill in the 1950s, when the government decided Copacabana should have more to offer its thousands of pilgrims than just the Basilica of the Virgin. – Sacred Destinations

It took a friend and I (Chuck) 30 minutes to walk all of the steep steps to the top. The exhausting climb was worth the beautiful sunset view out into Lake Titicaca. Some of our best Bolivia sunset photos were taken from this perch.

One of the most popular things for tourists to do in New York City is visiting the Statue of Liberty.

Statue of Liberty National Monument is a national monument comprising Liberty Island and Ellis Island in New York Harbor.[4] It includes the Statue of Liberty, situated on Liberty Island (40°41′24″N 74°02′44″W / 40.689978°N 74.045448°W / 40.689978; -74.045448), and the former immigration depot on Ellis Island (40°41′57″N 74°02′23″W / 40.699300°N 74.039655°W / 40.699300; -74.039655). The Statue of Liberty was dedicated in 1886. The immigration station at Ellis Island opened in 1892 and closed in 1954. – Wikipedia

The Statue of Liberty Monument and Ellis Island are both accessible by ferry from Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey and Battery Park in Lower Manhattan, New York. Plan a full day for this visit considering you have both Ellis Island, the immigration depot, and long lines for security at the Monument. The park has opened up service to the top of the crown, but tickets are sold ahead of time in limited quantities for each day.

During the seventeenth century, the Spanish paid for prominent European military engineers to build the fortresses which are today Cartagena’s most significant identifying features. Engineering works took well over 208 years and ended with some eleven kilometers of walls surrounding the city, including the Castillo San Felipe de Barajas shown below. In 1984, Cartagena’s colonial walled city and fortress were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This photo was taken in Cusco, Peru high on the hillside overlooking the city from the ruins of Sacsayhuaman.   The Cristo Blanco (White Christ) stands 25 meters tall and was a gift from the Palestine Arabs to the people of Cusco.  At night the statue is lit and can be seen from the Plaza de Armas as a guardian of the historic city.

This monument is a representation the Imaginary Equatorial line and it is called the Equatorial Monument or La Mitad del Mundo (the middle of the world.)  It is said that the monument is built exactly on the latitude line 00 00′ 00.”  However, just 400 meters away from this world famous monument is a museum called “Inty-Nan” where you will be convinced otherwise.  In Inty-Nan you will be shown a few experiments that clearly indicate the differences in gravity between the northern and southern hemisphere.
