Photo of the Day: Capsized Boat at Islands of San Blas, Panama

| Taken by Aracely | 6 Comments » | Photo of the Day

On our last day of sailing through the San Blas Islands we headed to the Island of Porbenir to process our exit from Panama through the immigration office.  As we approached the island we immediately noticed this boat capsized.  We discovered that the boat ran into a reef, which is quite common, about 500 yards from the beach.  The boat owner ended up selling the boat to some locals who had to pull it to the beach in order to begin work to repair it.

  1. did you see that bigger freighter type ship that was run aground in the San Blas also? I need to pull my pics up of it.

Good lord I’d like to know who the captain was.

Ahhh! Everyone off deck. Unfortunate for the owners, but fortunate for us because this was a great shot!

I hope they are okay, physically and financially… But it made a total gorgeous photo.

There was a great story along with the picture. The captain ran into a reef surrounding the island. Unable to do anything with the boat, he sold it to the locals. They dragged it to the beach and as you see in this picture are still trying to figure out what to do with it.
